Height 5 inches. Cylindrical form.


Hand painted. Decorated in the French style with a Rose-du-Barry ground with two white reserves with elaborate gold frames, one features an arrangement of fruit and the other has two exotic birds in a landscape.

Minor abrasion on lower section; very shallow chip to base.

 

Spill vases were made to hold rolled-up strips of paper or thin wood tapers used to light candles. They were often part of the garniture on the mantelpiece.
