About our speaker:

Sheila Keppel's background as a potter and later as a graduate student in Chinese Art History with Professor James Cahill at UC Berkeley combined to create a specialty in East Asian ceramics, especially those from China. She has lately been working on shipwrecks and dating, and this spring participated as "porcelain expert" in two expeditions, to the coasts of Baja California and Oregon

About the talk:

The talk takes a cultural approach, touching on the meanings of the blue and white designs both to the Chinese and to the Westerners, and is illustrated with a power point slide show.

Next meeting: Sunday, 16th October 2008. Angela Howard, specialist dealer in Armorial Chinese Export Porcelain, Wiltshire, England. Understanding Heraldry on Chinese Export Porcelain
